There is a story going around today that Brett Hull is attempting to put together a group to purchase the Dallas Stars from fianancially troubled owner Tom Hicks and that Hull is trying to get Wayne Gretzky and Mike Modano on board. My question is this: Is that a recipe for disaster? Lets look at the evidence.
1. Brett Hull’s tenure as a co-GM of the Dallas stars was a failure with reports being that Hull didn’t have the work ethic to be a successful GM.
2. Wayne Gretzky’s tenure in Phoenix was at best a modest failure and at worst might end up being a significant reason for the falure of the franchise in Phoenix. I understand that we all love and respect Wayne Gretzky but if you look at his record when he was in charge of the Coyotes it is a very poor track record at best.
Presumable if the purchase of the franchise was successful those two would have prominent roles in running the team. Let’s hope they have both learned from their first opportunities to run the team because if they haven’t, it could end up being pretty bad for the franchise.
